A broken key and a locked door
Our customer at Marine Parade needed help after a key broke inside the door lock. We extracted the broken key and then picked the lock open to restore access.
Why assessment matters
A broken key does not automatically mean that the entire lock needs replacing. The condition of the cylinder and mechanism matters, and the appropriate opening method depends on the individual lock. For this job, broken-key extraction followed by picking was the approach used.
If a key breaks in your lock
Avoid pushing the remaining piece deeper into the keyway or forcing another key into it. Send a close-up of the lock and a full photo of the door or gate, together with your location. Keep any remaining key pieces so the locksmith can assess what happened.
Proof of ownership, tenancy or proper authorisation is required before secured access work.
